Research Interest

My current interest moves to the globalization of medicine and its impact on East Asian countries from two lines of approach. From the "high culture" perspective, I am looking at how Japan and Taiwan encounter the standardization of the requirements for new drug approval. This working dissertation discusses several players (or actors in a Latourian sense) involved in global pharmaceutical industries--governments and scientists--thus presenting an exciting history with STS interest. The second line of approach, which can be referred as "reading science/medicine in culture", has to do with the phenomenon of popular science culture in East Asia. About the topic now I am lecturing, I try to provide students with another way to examine how science and medicine are articulated in "non-Western"cultures---mainly Japan and Taiwan at this moment and will include Korea and China in the future.
